a hand-bound, classically typeset book of a compilation of fairy tales. a project for typography class (CCA MFA Design)
boxy end tables no. 1 & 2
the boxy end tables offer just the right amount of table space for lamps or books while providing storage for anything you might need by your couch (say, the remote).
first exploration into using metal with woodwork. the tables feature a solid white poplar box with a walnut veneer on the inside. the box is “folded” down to bookmatch the grains while the edges are beveled to frame whatever is displayed inside. stainless steel legs were bent and MIG welded.

(set of 2). commissioned for capoeira irmandade in santa clara, ca. solid poplar stained red mahogany top with birch plugs and galvanized steel pipe legs. finished with layers of glossy polyeurothane and finishing wax. (*photo by orion mcclelland)

a set of round side tables that can be used for extra seating, storage, and a stool strong enough to stand on.
13” diameter, 21” tall. baltic birch plywood laminated then carved. features push-through drawers. finished with white-dyed imported veneer and polyeurothane finish.

coffee tables are plenty. inspired by mid-century modern furniture, scales brings back the tapered, round, wedged legs and offers more whimsy in its patterned top.
36” x 18” x 21” (w x l x h). laminate pine top with imported, hand-cut veneer, solid hand-turned maple legs.
